Mental Health Week 2020

The House of Friendship Package

“We had purchased enough food for Monday and Tuesday of March Break camp prior to our decision to close as a pre-emptive measure to COVID-19. After doing a quick inventory, and we realized we had a lot of produce we didn’t want to see go to waste. Our cook and a staff member packed it up today and delivered it to the House of Friendship. There were tears of joy all around. What an amazing way to turn potential waste from the realities of COVID-19 into a way to support some of the most vulnerable in our communities.”

Caitie Wright – General Manager, Outdoor Services , YMCAs of Cambridge & Kitchener-Waterloo

“Because of our relationships, we knew we had youth in our community who would be faced by needs during the COVID-19 shutdown. And, we had supplies – both food and personal hygiene products – and so we set to work creating packages which we distributed across our community to continue being present when we can’t be physically present.”

Beth King, General Manager, Child and Youth Outcomes, YMCAs of Cambridge & Kitchener-Waterloo
